RIDGEWOOD, Queens (WABC) -- A man was struck in the head and killed after dozens of shots were fired outside a recording studio in Queens early Monday.

The shooting happened just before 1:30 a.m. at Summerfield Street and Wyckoff Avenue at an industrial building also being used as a recording studio.

Police believe several gunman were involved with the shooting, firing at least 30 shots, which struck a 21-year-old man in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Many .22 caliber shell casings were recovered, believed to be from multiple weapons.

Police say the victim was leaving the massive building, filled with dozens of offices, when the shots rang out.

Sources tell Eyewitness News, surveillance video showed at least one of the suspects, with a gun, flee the scene.

A witness said the victim's girlfriend, who is pregnant with the couple's first child, showed up at the scene but was too upset to talk.

"There are a lot of people coming in and out, I don't know where they come from, it wasn't like this before," neighbor Maria Rios said.

She also heard the early morning gunfire. She lives right across the street. Rios is so afraid, not only of stray bullets, that she moved her bedroom away from the front windows.

"One car almost came to the building, so I said I'm going to change the room to the back and that's it."

Other neighbors described the terrifying moments when the shooting unfolded.

"Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, there were several people coming outside," one witness said. "So we came back, and now, there's just a bunch of cops."

It is a relatively quiet area where there were no murders in the precinct all of last year. Now, in 2022, they are up to seven shootings.

"I'm afraid," one woman said. "I've lived in this neighborhood, two blocks from here and it's not safe. It's happening constantly. You hear about people getting shot all the time."

Right now, the motive remains under investigation.
