Spectrum workers to march across George Washington Bridge over contract battle

Friday, August 25, 2017
NEW YORK (WABC) -- Spectrum workers will march across the George Washington Bridge Friday, hoping to end a two-year battle over expired contracts.

Members of Local 3 along with other union members will march across the bridge starting at 3 p.m.

The employees have been on strike against Spectrum's parent company, Charter Communications, since March.

The union says both Time Warner Cable and Charter have refused to bargain with the union for over two years to renew or renegotiate their expired contract, but the company said it has met with the union several times since February.

Charter says it is offering Local 3 a generous compensation package that includes an average 22-percent wage increase -- some employees up to a 55-percent wage increase -- and comprehensive retirement and health benefits, including a 401(k) that provides a dollar-for-dollar match up to 6 percent of eligible pay.
