72-year-old man found stabbed to death in Staten Island home, police investigating as a homicide

GRANITEVILLE, Staten Island (WABC) -- Police are investigating a man's death after a home health aide found him stabbed to death Monday morning.

According to neighbors, 72-year-old Eugene Reba didn't answer the door when his home health aide arrived at his house on Richmond Avenue in the Graniteville section of Staten Island, so she called the building superintendent to get inside.

They say he had to get onto the roof and jump down onto the balcony of this second-floor apartment to gain entry, where they found him dead.

Police were called to the scene and found Reba was stabbed multiple times in the torso.

"I feel really bad for him, because I even cried for him," one neighbor said. "I don't like what they did to him. They actually murdered this man."

Investigators found no signs of forced entry and no obvious motive.

The victim did not have a criminal record and police deemed the incident as a homicide.

Neighbors said Reba had only been living in his new home for about a month or so before the murder.

While he'd only been there a short time, his neighbors definitely knew who he was.

"He used to walk everywhere. He used to walk to Walgreens, I used to walk to the store on the corner," one neighbor said.

The cozy Staten Island community is unnerved by the disturbing murder.

"I feel very bad about what happened. I lock my doors, around three locks, because I'm afraid," neighbor Aurora Velez said.

No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
