Transformer fire leads to thousands without power on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- A transformer fire on Staten Island left thousands of residents powerless Wednesday afternoon.

It happened in the Dongan Hills section, where FDNY responded to reports of smoke in a Con Ed substation.

The fire left roughly 3,700 customers without power.

60 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene, where there were no reported injuries.

Con Edison was able to restore power back to customers.



Details surrounding what caused the fire remains unknown.
