The 36-year-old victim was with his fiancée when he tripped and fell onto the tracks, police said.
Officers Brian Caminero and Azrahul Chowdhury were at another subway station a block and a half away when they got the 911 call.
"The first thing going through our mind is we got to get there, you know, we got a 911 call, a male on the tracks in a completely different station than we were," Caminero said.
They ran over as fast as they could and saw the man on the tracks just as a southbound C train was approaching. He was bleeding from the head and disoriented.
Officer Chowdhury shined his flashlight at the oncoming train to stop it, while Officer Caminero reached down to pull the man up.

"It's very emotional, we're making it, you know, it's like make sure he was in a safe environment, he gets to see his family, his fiancée, this is what we do, actually make sure our job is every subway rider goes home safe," Chowdhury said.
The victim was taken to the hospital and was said to be stable.
