It started in the high rent Madison Avenue retail district when three suspects grabbed $10,000 worth of jackets from the Mackage clothing store on East 68th Street and Madison Avenue and then went on a wild ride through the Upper East Side in a Nissan, from which they bailed at East 72nd Street.
Eyewitness News obtained video as the suspects ran down East 71st Street with the stolen items, one of them trying to hide in a building vestibule.
While guarding the getaway car, NYPD officers saw a different, unrelated car driving the wrong way on Park Avenue from East 70th to East 71st streets.
While that car, a black Lexus, was stopped in traffic, one of the officers attempted to pull it over and stood in front of the car.
The driver then hit the gas and struck the officer. He was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and broken arm.
