The car, which also had a third person inside, hit another vehicle, a light pole and a transformer before it overturned.
A witness said the car hit the pole with such force that the engine ended up on the opposite side of the street.
Police say two men in the car were at the Family Manor catering hall several blocks up on Sanford Avenue when the shooting happened.
Firefighters were able to rescue all three people from the overturned vehicle and they were all taken to the hospital and are said to be stable.
PSE&G and cleanup crews worked for hours to repair the damage and oil and fluids from the overturned cars.

"I think this corner is very dangerous," a women added. "I think they speed heavily on this street. There needs to be speed bumps, there needs to be a grid on the street, there needs to be maybe a flashing light and there's not. There's a school right there so I don't know what the city planning is but this is a hotbed for accidents."
The circumstances of the shooting at the catering hall were not yet known.
No arrests have been made and the incident is still under investigation.
