The 42-year-old woman was walking her dog near her home at 157th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue in Washington Heights when a black sedan making a turn struck her at about 10:20 p.m.
The victim, a mother of two, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with severe trauma about the head and body.
Surveillance video shows the car hitting the woman as she tried to cross St. Nicholas Avenue from east to west in the southbound crosswalk.
Police say the car, a dark-color Chrysler 300M, 4-door, fled southbound on St. Nicholas Avenue.
Witnesses say the car is frequently seen parked at a building next door.
The victim's mother spoke outside their apartment building Saturday morning.

She said her daughter has two children, a 20-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son.
