Patient dies after ambulance and SUV collide on Staten Island

WESTERLEIGH, Staten Island (WABC) -- A woman has died after the ambulance transporting her to the hospital and another vehicle collided on Staten Island.

Officials say Maria Andres-Martinez, 35, was initially struck by a car while crossing Jewett Avenue. EMS arrived to transport her to Richmond University Medical Center.



On the way to the hospital, the ambulance and a Jeep collided and the ambulance landed on its side.

The driver, three emergency workers, and Andres-Martinez were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Andres-Martinez succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, officials said.

The emergency workers and driver of the Jeep were listed in stable condition.
