Police: Man drew large swastika, racist graffiti at NYU building

GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are investigating after anti-Semitic and racist graffiti was drawn on a New York University building.

It happened Saturday, September 12 just after 1:30 p.m. Police say the suspect drew a large swastika with a large marker and wrote "Jews/n******" at the Silver Center for Arts and Science at 31 Washington Place.

Another swastika included anti-Black statements underneath.

"That's hate speech right there, that's not proper in America - shouldn't tolerate that," said NYU Freshman Jeffery Chang.

It is unknown where the vandalism took place at the building.



The street is tagged with graffiti, but is also painted with a poster, advocating for black lives.

"This is the epicenter - Washington Square, New York City - so across the street this is happening...really disheartening," said NYU Freshman Karl Kild.

The suspect fled the scene on foot.
