71-year-old man struck, killed in Bronx hit-and-run; police searching for driver

BRONX, New York (WABC) -- Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in the Bronx on Thursday that left a 71-year-old man dead.

Officials say Jerry Spriggs was found lying on a roadway and bleeding from the head on East 138th Street and Exterior Street just after 3 p.m.

The victim was struck by a MAC tractor trailer with a white rig and a red trailer as it was turning.

Police say it is unlikely the driver realized a person had been struck and kept driving.

Spriggs was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
