ENGLEWOOD, New Jersey (WABC) -- A 61-year-old man was seriously injured when his SUV rolled over him and into a business in Englewood in a freak accident Thursday afternoon.

"I thought it was an earthquake," said ESU employee Danny Yi. " I saw the whole wall break down. At the moment I froze I didn't know what to do."

When police arrived they found a man with serious injuries to his pelvis, legs and back after his Ford Explorer crushed him.

"Two gentlemen were actually associated with the car," witness James Porter said. "One gentleman came running down screaming saying the breaks had failed."

The man, a local handyman known in the community as Mac, was removing heavy equipment from the back of the vehicle when it began to roll backward down a steep incline on Chester Place.

"My heart is with him, you know I hope he gets better," one resident said. "Always I hope because he's a tremendous person."

As the vehicle picked up momentum it crashed into ESU Importers on Grand Avenue, according to the Englewood Police Department.

"You couldn't hear it," witness Alex Navarret said. "But you saw it. You saw it first and then heard the crash."

Mac was taken to the hospital for treatment.

No one else was injured.
