Elderly woman killed, 4 others injured in Harlem apartment fire

HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- An elderly woman was killed and at least four other people were injured after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Harlem.

The fire happened Tuesday at an apartment building on Edgecombe Avenue around 10 a.m.

The deputy chief on the scene said the fire started on the 12th floor and spread to the 13th floor and that there was a lot of clutter in the apartment, providing an extra challenge.

The 80-year-old victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition where she later died.

Two firefighters were also checked out for minor injuries.

The other injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Few other details were released.
