Torso found on Breezy Point Beach might be body of Emmy-winning filmmaker: police

BREEZY POINT, Queens (WABC) -- Police believe a human torso discovered along Breezy Point Beach Friday afternoon was the body of an emmy-winning filmmaker.

Police say the headless, armless body may belong to Ross McDonnell. Police say they believe McDonnell drowned while swimming, and his body became dismembered in the ocean.

McDonnell, originally from Ireland, lived in Brooklyn and was last seen over two weeks ago.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Friday, officers discovered an unidentified human torso with legs attached laying on the sand in Queens.

EMS responded and pronounced the person dead at the scene.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.



The investigation is ongoing.
