Nassau County approves gas tax suspension for anything over $3 a gallon

Monday, April 11, 2022
MINEOLA, Long Island (WABC) -- A bit of relief is coming to some drivers on Long Island after a temporary suspension of Nassau County's gas tax was approved.

Nassau County legislature approved the temporary break for anything over $3 a gallon.

That is estimated to be about 5 cents a gallon, according to a spokesperson.

However, the break could take until June to go into effect because that will be the next time the county is allowed to change tax rates.

The move comes after the state cut its gas tax by 16 cents.

The average for a gallon of gas in Nassau County is $4.09.

The state average is $4.22.
