KEARNY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A row of parked buses and trailers used for special events like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade went up in flames in Kearny on Monday.

The vehicles were parked at Royal Buses, Inc., where the company's groundskeeper arrived for work just after 6 a.m. and discovered them ablaze.

The fire spread rapidly to about seven buses, sending flames shooting through the parking area, before firefighters put out the flames.

The groundskeeper was not injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The company, On Time Elite, provides production buses and trailers for film shoots and special events, including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The charred buses are a huge loss for the company and a spokesperson said the buses were supposed to be used starting Tuesday for the parade.

The estimated value for each bus or trailer is $670,000 each.

The company has other locations around the area where it stores buses. Those are expected to be used to staff the parade.

The fire is being called suspicious, mostly as a precaution, until they find out how it started.
