New York City subway, bus fares could be headed higher

Friday, March 23, 2018
NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- MTA chairman Joe Lhota says the agency is considering new fare and toll hikes next year.

Lhota claims the money is needed to deal with financial issues including a projected one billion dollar budget gap in 2020 and 2021.

If approved by state lawmakers, the fare hike would be the sixth since 2009.

It's unclear how large a fare increase Lhota would like to implement.
