Officials started responding around 9:40 a.m. after reports of gas odors and fumes on Bedford Park Boulevard between Decatur Avenue and Webster Avenue.
The FDNY, NYPD and Con Edison crews were all on the scene working to address the issue. More than 100 EMS personnel responded.
The incident was placed under control just before 1 p.m., according to the FDNY.
First responders treated five patients, and transported three of them to area hospitals.
Residents with surrounding addresses were temporarily evacuated as a result of the incident. The FDNY and Con Edison crews eventually checked nearby buildings and determined they were safe to reoccupy.
