The New York Times says Congressman Jerrold Nadler won't be seeking re-election when his term ends in November of next year.
Nadler was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1992, making him the state's longest-serving member. He's the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee and served as chair when Democrats controlled the chamber during the Biden years.
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released a statement Monday saying in part,
"A proud son of New York City, Rep. Nadler has been a tremendous champion for the New Yorkers he is privileged to represent. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, he spent years fighting for the care and support that New York City and his constituents needed to begin to rebuild and heal. As Dean of the New York delegation, Congressman Nadler has been a dear friend and valued mentor to myself and so many others throughout the People's House."
Nadler is 78 years old.
