UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Tuesday, fans will pay their respects to Latin music legend Eddie Palmieri.

He died last week at age 88 at his home in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel on Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Palmieri was born in East Harlem to Puerto Rican parents.

In 1961, he founded the band "La Perfecta," which redefined Latin jazz by using trombones instead of trumpets.

The pianist, composer and bandleader was the first Latino to win a Grammy Award and would win seven more over a career that spanned nearly 40 albums.
