The celebration saw a performance for fans at 1 p.m., Wednesday, before an invite-only anniversary performance at 7 p.m.
The evening performance served as a fundraiser for the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition. It is expected to raise nearly $3 million for the coalition of nonprofits providing immigration services, named for a popular line in "Hamilton."
Many of the original cast members of "Hamilton" came to the Wednesday evening anniversary show, including Renée Elise Goldsberry (who won a Tony Award for her role as Angelica Schuyler), Jasmine Cephas Jones (who played Peggy Schuyler), Thayne Jasperson (who has remained in the cast for all 10 years of its run so far), and the show's creator, composer, lyricist, and first titular star, Lin-Manuel Miranda himself.
Fans lined up to see the stars enter the Richard Rodgers Theatre early Wednesday evening.
Eyewitness News talked to a couple of those fans who lined up outside the theater. They are in their late teens so they grew up with this show.
"So many years I've been watching it. I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat," said a "Hamilton" fan named Emma. "It's so exciting to be here. I'm in New York. I've never been here before. It's just such an opportunity to be here in the greatest city in the world."
"We're a military family and I always feel really close with founding father things, and anything involving actual American history," said another fan named Emily. "So, the fact that it's about that, and it's done so well just draws anyone into it, I think."
Inside the theater, a curtain call brought out and thanked everyone who made the it possible to tell the story of "Hamilton" for the last 10 years.
The big crowd on stage included recognizable faces, including the performers and creative teams who brought the show to life for more than 5,000 performances in the last decade on Broadway. Of course, there have been thousands more shows in other cities.
Miranda came out to lead the cast in a sing-along.
Additionally, Wednesday saw the announcement that the filmed version of "Hamilton," available to stream on Disney+, will be hitting movie theaters on Sept. 5 to celebrate the show's 10th anniversary on Broadway.
