Fire broke out on the home's first floor on 46th Street in Sunnyside just before 3 a.m.
The 65-year-old resident was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries, with one taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell, and the two others taken to Mount Sinai-Queens.
A preliminary investigation indicates the victim may have set the fire to keep warm.
The fire remains under investigation.
