Maroon 5 talks about new album and tour coming to MSG
This is the band's eighth studio album and they have had more than a dozen tours and been a part of several as well. Not to mention, they completed a Las Vegas residency in the spring of this year.
"We've toured so much that I think we're really good at it now," Levine said . "What I always want everyone to know is that we dip our toe into pop music and a lot of different flavors and styles and things but at the end of the day, we're a rock band live."
Lead guitarist James Valentine talked about one of his favorite parts of putting on a live show.
"There's this great moment when the lights go down and you hear the crowd going and we just feel so blessed to be able to do this," he said. "Getting in front of those crowds is like a drug that I wish everybody could experience, and I can't get enough of it."
They are bringing their tour to Madison Square Garden in November and say there's nothing like the energy in New York City.
"They have so much passion and energy and they show up in droves for you," Levine said. "I love New York, like, even more than I ever have. You know, my roots are there, my family is from there, they moved west before I was born, but I just feel such a connection to New York City. We've spent so much time there. MSG, literally, you can feel the history of the building and we love playing there. It's such a wonderful, powerful city, and our fans there just show up. Honestly, the best fans in the country, don't tell all the other ones."
The band brings the crowd all of their favorite songs, plus hits from their new album, "Love is Like."
"A lot of these songs on the album has the vibe of some of our earlier stuff which is really fun to play live so a song like, "All night," has been really fun to play because for me it has that trademark Maroon 5 funk guitar which we've done a lot of," Valentine said.
Levine prides himself on "not doing his homework" and bringing fresh stories and coming up with new ways to connect with their audiences during their concerts.
"I like to have a loose idea, but you have to kind of feel the energy in the moment. I think of stories sometimes, and maybe I'll stick with one for a while if it's really feeling good to tell, but I like to draw from all of the different experiences and try to semi-wing it a little bit," Levine said.
