PLAINVIEW, New York (WABC) -- Community members in Nassau County are gathering for a special dedication ceremony on Sunday in honor of an American Israeli soldier killed in Gaza.

The Town of Oyster Bay is dedicating a neighborhood park to Omer Neutra, a native of Plainview and graduate of the Schechter School of Long Island.

The ceremony took place at noon on Marilyn Boulevard and Phipps Lane in Plainview. A rabbi said a prayer while Neutra's family took some time to speak.

Neutra was killed during the October 7 attacks and his family is fighting for the return of their son's body. He was 21 years old.

According to officials, the town has redesigned the park, which now features upgrades like a basketball court for children and families to enjoy.

Last October, Neutra's family hosted a community basketball game to honor their son's 23rd birthday. According to his family, Omer loves basketball and wore the number "24" because he idolized Kobe Bryant and was a big Knicks fan. Despite living in Israel, Omer rarely missed watching a Knicks game.
