NYRR announced their collaboration with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum on Monday, to produce the race which will take place on Saturday, July 11, in Central Park.
"New York Road Runners is honored to support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in hosting this powerful and meaningful event as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11," said Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO of New York Road Runners. "As the nonprofit that 'runs' New York City, we believe in the power of running to bring people together, and this race provides an opportunity for our community to reflect and remember those impacted by 9/11 while celebrating the resilience that defines our city."
The four-mile race will honor the lives lost on September 11th as the nation gets set to commemorate 25 years since the 9/11 terror attacks later this year.
About 5,000 runners are expected to participate in the race.
"Each year, this race brings together thousands of runners and spectators united by a shared commitment to remember 9/11," said Beth Hillman, President and CEO of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. "As we approach the historic 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we're reaching out to the more than 100 million Americans who are too young to remember that day and asking them to join our mission of commemoration, education, and inspiration."
All money raised from the event will support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Registration will open on May 5 for New York Road Runners Member Plus and above levels and May 7 for the general public at the NYRR's website. Participants can take part in person or support the event through fundraising and donations.
