Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Thursday a lottery to give away 2,100 free Broadway tickets to city high school students.
Seven Broadway shows have offered to provide the tickets for shows through the end of summer and into the fall.
The participating Broadway shows include:
- Buena Vista Social Club
- In The Heights (New York City Center)
- School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play
- Stranger Things: The First Shadow
- The Lost Boys
- The Great Gatsby
- Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)
Selected students will be able to claim up to two tickets.
The lottery is being run by the non-profit theater group TDF which also operates the TKTS booths.
Every student who enters the lottery will receive a free, two-month TDF membership for discounted tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway as well as music, museums and dance performances.
"In a city overflowing with extraordinary art and culture, every young person should have the opportunity to experience those moments, regardless of what's in their bank account," said Mayor Mamdani. "We want every high school student to have the opportunity to explore this city, experience incredible art and discover something that stays with them long after the curtain falls."
The website to enter went live at 10 a.m. and will remain open through Aug. 17 at 10 a.m.
The drawing for tickets will be held on Sept. 1.
