Longtime Brooklyn Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, who represents Crown Heights, Flatbush, Brownsville and other neighborhoods in New York's Ninth Congressional District, will formally back Mamdani on Saturday afternoon.
The anticipated endorsement comes at a time when key state Democrats have been slow to back the socialist Democrat.

The head of the state's Democratic Party, Jay Jacobs, announced he is not endorsing Mamdani, this while New York Gov. Kathy Hochul earlier this week pledged her support.
Hochul's endorsement opened the doors for others to back the Democratic candidate, including a key player in Albany, State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. The congresswoman returned to her childhood neighborhood in Manhattan on Friday to make the endorsement.
The support comes after a Texas man was charged with making a terroristic threat as a hate crime against Mamdani. The political violence was condemned by Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa.
"Let's not have any violence affect any of our candidates because that will hurt the whole process of elections," Sliwa said.
Mamdani is currently leading polls in a race that features Mayor Eric Adams and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, both running as Independent candidates, as well as Sliwa on the Republican line.
On Friday, Cuomo campaigned at a mosque in Jamaica, Queens, where he was heckled by a handful of people. The former governor blamed the Mamdani campaign.
"Mamdani has this tactic of sending disruptors because he doesn't want people to hear the truth," Cuomo said.
The Democratic mayoral nominee refuted Cuomo's claims and said his campaign did not orchestrate the protest.
Meanwhile, Sliwa will be on Staten Island on Saturday with the head of the state's GOP before heading to the Bronx, where he is set to open his campaign office in the borough.
