New York State Democratic Party Chairman says he will not support Mamdani for NYC mayor

New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs announced that he will not support Zohran Mamdani for mayor, despite being his party's nominee and his recent backing from Gov Hochul.

In a statement released on Thursday, Jacobs cited strong disagreements over Israel and Democratic socialism in his decision not to support the Democratic mayoral nominee.

"Mr. Mamdani and I are in agreement that America's greatest problem is the continued growth in income disparity in our nation. On how to address it - we fundamentally disagree," Jacobs said. "Furthermore, as I expressed to him directly, I strongly disagree with his views on the State of Israel, along with certain key policy positions. Furthermore, I reject the platform of the so-called "Democratic Socialists of America" and do not believe that it represents the principles, values or policies of the Democratic Party. For those reasons I will not be endorsing Mr. Mamdani for Mayor of the City of New York."

Thousands take part in charter school march across Brooklyn Bridge

More than 15,000 charter school students and parents marched across the Brooklyn Bridge Thursday in a "Rally and March for Excellence." It was billed as non-political, but comes as Zohran Mamdani leads in the mayor's race.

The Success Academy, the city's leading charter network, cancelled classes so students could attend.

Success Academy CEO Eva Moskowitz wrote in an email, "Unfortunately, anti-charter forces are powerful and we have had to fight for everything we have achieved over the past 20 years. There are currently serious threats to the educational excellence your child deserves."

Moskowitz did not specifically name Mamdani, an opponent of charter school expansion.
