NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- The New York Road Runners on Wednesday announced the full professional athlete field for the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon that will take place on Sunday, November 1.

The star-studded lineup for the 50th anniversary includes three defending champions, 40 Olympians and Paralympians, 25 Olympic, Paralympic and World Championships medalists, and 22 national record holders.

Defending champions Hellen Obiri of Kenya, Benson Kipruto of Kenya, and Marcel Hug of Switzerland will return to headline the women's open division and men's open and wheelchair divisions.

Former champions Sheila Chepkirui, Catherine Debrunner, Geoffrey Kamworor, Tatyana McFadden, Abdi Nageeye, Madison de Rozario, Daniel Romanchuk, and David Weir will also return.

And this year there will be a deep American lineup led by Weini Kelati, making her marathon debut, as well as Joe Klecker, Conner Mantz, Jess McClain, and Zouhair Talbi.

The race began in 1976 as a way to celebrate the nation's bicentennial, but it has grown into one of the biggest sporting events in the world with nearly 60,000 participants and more than two millions spectators.
