The fire reportedly started from machinery inside a shoe shine shop just before 4:30 p.m.
The fire was brought under control around 5 p.m., but caused a smoke condition on the mezzanine level.
Commuters were still allowed into the building, but faced delays on 7th Avenue due to fire department activity.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
