The incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, at the Inwood-207 Street train station mezzanine, according to police.
Investigators said the girl was with her 36-year-old mother when the suspect approached from behind, grabbed the child and attempted to flee into the subway with her. The attempt was unsuccessful, police said.
The suspect then fled on a southbound A train and remains unidentified.
Emergency medical personnel responded and treated the girl at the scene.
