Rare copy of the Declaration of Independence on display at New York Public Library

Updated 3 hours ago
NEW YORK (WABC) -- A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence is on display at the New York Public Library.

Visitors with tickets can view the manuscript which is handwritten by Thomas Jefferson.

It is one of the few surviving "fair copies" -- unique because Jefferson condemns the slave trade.

That text was subsequently removed by the Second Continental Congress before the document was ratified on July 4, 1776.

The Declaration of Independence display is part of the NYPL's systemwide celebration of America's 250th birthday.
