Authorities say it happened just after 10:10 p.m. at 4 West 183rd Street. It was brought under control just over an hour later.
A 33-year-old man sustained severe burns to his face and body and was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition.
The victim is a store worker who was pulled out of a burning business by a friend, who was not injured.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the flames.
