The incident unfolded just before noon Saturday at a home on Ocean Crest Boulevard near Beach 25 Street in Far Rockaway.
Police initially responded to a report of shots fired there.
When officers arrived, they reported a fire at the house and encountered an armed suspect who had barricaded himself inside.
That person was eventually taken into custody.
It was not immediately clear how the fire started or if anyone was injured.
More information is expected when the NYPD holds a news conference at the scene later on Saturday.
