UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Three people were wounded when gunfire erupted on Manhattan's Upper West Side Tuesday night.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. in front of 589 Amsterdam Avenue and 89th Street.

Police say a 27-year-old Christian Gala was shot in the chest and 40-year-old Ruth Jones in the right hand.

They were transported to St. Luke's Hospital in stable condition.

About a half an hour later, a 39-year-old man, Rashard Jackson, walked into Harlem Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and left elbow, and police determined he was wounded in the same shooting.

The suspect fled the scene in a gray sedan, and a firearm was recovered under an SUV owned by Allison Eden.

"I heard four shots and ran in to see if my husband had heard, and he said, 'Yeah, I heard, I'm going to go down and see what it was,'" she said. "And lo and behold, look what happened. It's pretty scary, because I have children and I live in the neighborhood. In less than a half an hour, there were two shootings, there was a robbery, and now, my car is a crime scene."

There is no description of the suspect, and no arrests have been made.

Police say the victims all have criminal records, and they believe Gala was a drug dealer who was the likely target of the shooting.

The investigation is active and ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
