The flames broke out on Arlington Avenue in Teaneck just before 3:30 a.m.
Firefighters found 32-year-old Delton Brown and his 29-year-old wife Ammoya Brown unresponsive in an attic bedroom, and they were later pronounced dead.
They lived in the home with Delton's mother, who was out of town at the time.

A neighbor named Eric who knew the couple since they were young called 911 and watched in horror as firefighters arrived.
"I heard a popping sound from my window," he said. "I saw fire coming from the house behind my house, flames was coming, was popping up. I called 911."
The couple has been married for five years, and both were active in their church at the Westside Worship Center.
"I just married them," Pastor Winston Christian said. "They were planning on going in a trip."
Family and friends rushed to the scene, some collapsing, overcome with grief.
Their pastor had just prayed over them and said the loss is a devastating blow he can't quite explain...
Two other people were able to escape safely from the burning home. Their names have not been released.

One Teaneck firefighter suffered burns to his leg, while two others were treated for heat exhaustion.
All three were expected to fully recover.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office is leading the investigation.
