1 dead, 2 hurt in North Amityville house fire, 2 children escape
NORTH AMITYVILLE, Suffolk County (WABC) -- A raging fire killed one man and seriously injured two others in North Amityville.
The fire broke out in the house on Albany Avenue just after 2:30 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters say they had to fight the fire from the backyard and the front lawn as the entire home was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived.
The residents, all family members, were taken to University Hospital. The two injured middle-aged men are receiving care in the burn unit.
Two children, a boy and girl, escaped the home. One suffered minor injuries. They were released to their mother who was not home at the time of the fire.
It took dozens of firefighters two hours to bring the fire under control. Firefighters found the man's body after the fire had been put out. His identity has not yet been confirmed.
The cause is under investigation, but police said the fire appeared to have started accidentally.
Much of their attention seemed focused on the kitchen, specifically in an area near the stove where the fire may have started.
