14-year-old dead after stabbing outside Bronx school

BRONX, N.Y. (WABC) -- On Wednesday night, a few candles in a box and a bouquet of flowers were a modest tribute to a neighborhood kid murdered earlier that day.

A 14-year-old student is dead after he was stabbed outside of a school in the Bronx Wednesday afternoon. Just after dismissal at I.S. 117 on Morris Avenue around 3 p.m., Timothy Crump got into a fight with another 14-year-old, police said.

The other 14-year-old, who has not been identified by police, took out a knife and stabbed Timothy in the stomach repeatedly, according to police, with dozens of other children nearby.

Timothy was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital where he died of multiple stab wounds. The other boy was taken into custody.

"A boy came out ... and started hitting him and a boy came out of the school pulled out a knife and started stabbing him," said one student who witnessed the incident.

The weapon, a knife, was recovered from the scene in the 1800 block of Morris Avenue in the Mount Hope section.

Police sources said the suspect had been the victim in a past altercation with Timothy, who robbed the boy at the time.

Close family friends of the suspect said he was terrified of a group of classmates who taunted him relentlessly.

"He told everybody in the whole neighborhood, 'listen, I'm scared, I'm afraid to go to school, they keep telling me they're gonna kill me,'" said one friend.

The suspect is in custody with charges pending. The investigation is ongoing.
