Ex-school union official pleads guilty in NY theft

WHITE PLAINS -- An assistant high school principal in New York has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $800,000 from teachers union bank accounts.

The Westchester district attorney's office says Frank Gluberman of Congers pleaded guilty to grand larceny on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said Gluberman was treasurer of two teachers' funds when the thefts occurred between 2006 and 2013.

They say he forged the union president's name on checks made out to himself and his daughters. Some checks were used to pay Gluberman's property taxes.

The district attorney says the theft came to light when Gluberman gave up his union position.

Gluberman is now assistant principal at Woodlands High School in Hartsdale.

He faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years when he is sentenced on Dec. 14.

He is expected to pay full restitution.
