LOS ANGELES (WABC) -- For years, you've seen the Muppets on TV, the big screen sometimes even in person. But for the first time, you're about to see them behind the scenes...kind of.
Their new show looks a lot like the reality TV, and like any good reality show, this one starts with some high drama from its star couple.
That would be Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog, who have come a long way since the late Jim Henson was transporting them in a garbage bag. Now, the frog is filming a new series in Los Angeles with a little help from his famous friends.
Promos featuring some of ABC's biggest stars are letting you know that the Muppets are back in prime time after almost two decades.
The old saying that comes to mind is the more things change, the more they stay the same, and as the series begins, Miss Piggy and Kermit have actually split up.
"And we just kind of decided it was time trying to go our separate ways, romantically," Kermit said. "But of course, we're still working together every day."
Technically, Kermit is her boss, acting as the executive producer of a show called "Up Late with Miss Piggy."
All of the familiar Muppets are back, along with plenty who are less familiar.
The aim is to get adults laughing in a show for everybody.
"Quite frankly, what I hope to get out of the show is the ability to survive my star," Kermit said. "And you know who we're talking about. Ongoing process...ongoing."
He also said he'd like to get a second season.
"The Muppets" premieres Tuesday, September 22, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
