JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- One person was killed and two others injured in a crash between a car that was fleeing police and a box truck in Jersey City Tuesday.

The accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. at Paterson Plank Road and Congress Street.

Jersey City police and firefighters responded and pronounced the driver of the car dead at the scene.

The passenger in that vehicle, a 41-year-old man, was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center in critical condition.

Firefighters extricated the 44-year-old driver of the box truck, who was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Both are listed in stable condition.

Law enforcement sources say Union City police were in the area working on an investigation when the car in question fled the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, and traffic is closed on Paterson Plank Road in both directions.
