1 hurt in violent home invasion by men posed as construction workers
Tim Fleischer reports from the site of the invasion in Bellmore.

BELLMORE, N.Y. (WABC) -- A violent home invasion robbery left one person injured on Long Island Friday.

The crime happened just before 11 a.m. at a house on Ellen Road in Bellmore. As a result of the manhunt, Kennedy High School was placed on lockout, meaning no one could get inside the school.

Police responded to the scene after three men allegedly posing as construction workers burst into the home and pistol-whipped the husband, who was at home with his wife at the time. There were also three actual construction workers inside at the time. Authorities say all five were tied up while the suspects ransacked the home.

The male homeowner was hospitalized with a non-life threatening head wound, but there is no word on his condition.

The wife was also taken to the hospital to be treated for trauma and shock, though she was not physically harmed.

The suspects made off with cash, jewelry and cell phones before fleeing the scene in a gray van. Investigators are still looking for them.

The couple does have kids, but they were not home at the time.

This investigation is ongoing.
