Relative arrested after 15-year-old stabbed in Spring Valley
Marcus Solis reports on the arrest of a suspect in the stabbing of a Rockland County teen.

SPRING VALLEY, New York (WABC) -- Police have arrested a relative of a 15-year-old girl found stabbed in Spring Valley on Wednesday afternoon.

Walter Carpio-Galicia, 32, of Spring Valley, was taken into custody Thursday after police were notified around 9 a.m. that the suspect was involved in a car wreck on Interstate 120 in Augusta, Georgia. He was held by authorities there.

Spring Valley Police officers responded to Lake Street around 3 p.m. Wednesday and found the victim with multiple stab wounds to her body.

She was taken to Westchester Medical Center where she is recovering, according to the Spring Valley Police Department.

The suspect is the victim's relative and he fled in a 2014 Toyota owned by the victim's mother. A national search was launched which led to the sighting in Columbia County, Georgia.

The suspect was initially arrested one week ago, charged with forcible touching after the victim claimed she had been abused. Carpio-Galicia was arraigned and released on bail.

But a neighbor who doesn't want to be identified says she saw the suspect in a car, waiting until the teen arrived home from school.

It turns out Carpio-Galicia allegedly stole the victim's mother's car from her job and drove to the house where the victim was stabbed five times in the torso.

There was no comment from the victim's mother and brother as they headed to the hospital.
