Brave police officers and a father and son are being praised as heroes after they saved a woman who crashed her car in Tenafly Sunday night.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. on Riveredge Road, with 911 callers reporting that a vehicle had rolled over and the driver was trapped inside.

Sergeant Robert Terranova and Officer Vincent Cooper arrived to find the car on fire, and both officers worked to cut the driver from her seat belt and remove her from the vehicle. They got her out just as flames entered the passenger compartment.

A volunteer firefighter who had been driving by stopped and worked with the officers by using a fire extinguisher to fight the flames.

The driver, a 39-year-old female from Newark, was taken to a safe location, and emergency workers provided medical aid.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police say there are indications that the driver lost control while negotiating a curve.

The vehicle crossed over the eastbound lanes of Riveredge Road and crashed into a tree.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the driver was admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center with serious injuries.
