ASTORIA, Queens (WABC) -- Police are hunting for the driver involved in a fatal hit and run in Queens late Wednesday.

Authorities say s 45-year-old man was struck on 21st Street and 30th Road in Astoria at 11 p.m. and was tossed all the way to the other side of the road from the force of the impact. The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.

Detectives say there is video showing the driver moving at "warp speed" down the street, and an intersection with no crosswalk where area residents say speeding is common.

Shattered glass, clothing and car parts littered the scene, and investigators said they were searching for a red Toyota. Some neighbors said they were not surprised by the deadly incident.

"I've seen it the other day too, so this is not my first time I've seen it," Julio Roldan said. "I've been here for three months, and I've seen this. This is the second time I've seen something like this."

Investigators may have some clues to work with, as several residents said three girls may have witnessed the incident and stuck around until police arrived.
