Pedestrian injured by falling debris in Midtown

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- A man is hospitalized in serious condition after being hit by falling debris Wednesday afternoon in Midtown Manhattan.

It happened at about 4 p.m. on 30th Street and 5th Avenue.

Eyewitnesses said a piece of wood blocking access to a construction site apparently came loose from its frame and landed on the pedestrian, who was walking on the sidewalk.

Police are on the scene investigating, and have taped off the area to protect other pedestrians.

The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital. Witnesses said he remained conscious.
