GODLEY, Texas --Kids across the country are heading back to school, but in a small Texas town, one second-grade teacher is making a big promise.
Brandy Young, a teacher at Godley Elementary school, says this year, her students will have no homework.
Not tonight. Not any night.
Young sent a letter home to parents explaining why and it's going viral on social media.
She says after a summer of research, she's trying something new and homework will only consist of work that didn't get done during the school day.
After that, she recommends spending the time on activities that she's found do more to improve student performance such as eating dinner as a family, reading together, playing outside and going to bed early.
She told sister station Action News that there's too much pressure for success and not enough emphasis on the person as whole.
Samantha Gallagher's daughter Brooke is in Mrs. Young's class.
Mom posted the letter on Facebook and it's been shared tens of thousands of times.
The note is opening up a great conversation about education, our kids and our future.
Gallagher says her family is thrilled by the new no-homework police - especially little Brooke.
