WARREN, New Jersey (WABC) -- A New Jersey State Police trooper was involved in a serious crash that trapped him in his cruiser Monday afternoon.

The crash happened on I-78 eastbound in Warren just west of Exit 40.

The NJSP said the trooper's vehicle was heading east when it ran off the road and struck a tree.

Emergency crews had to cut the trooper out of the vehicle. He was then transported by helicopter to the hospital in serious condition. Fortunately, he is expected to survive.
