LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens (WABC) -- It was quite a sight in Queens on Saturday morning, when a wall of fire and smoke spiraled towards the sky. Authorities say a crew hit a gas line while working at a construction site on Jackson Avenue in Long Island City shortly after 2 p.m.

Gas began to leak and erupted into a cloud of flames.

One person was hurt, but not seriously. Firefighters had to wait for Con Edison crews to turn off the gas before they could extinguish the flames.

One nearby building sustained damage outside.
