TROY, N.Y. (WABC) -- Two police officers are recovering after being shot by a suspect in Troy, New York.
The officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
Officials in Troy say Officers Joshua Comitale and Chad Klein are being treated at Albany Medical Center and are expected to be okay.
They were responding to an attempted carjacking at the time.
Police say they exchanged fire with the suspect, who died at the hospital.
According to investigators, Comitale encountered the suspect in the area and called out that he had a person fitting the description.
As Klein came into the area, the suspect began to flee. Comitale gave chase and the suspect and the officers exchanged gunfire.
Comitale was shot in both of his lower legs and Klein sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Police say the suspect sustained gunshot wounds and continued to resist as officers were handcuffing him. He later died from his injuries.
Comitale is a 7 year member of the Troy Police Department
Klein is a 9 year member of the Troy Police Department . He is also an Air force Reserve Veteran and served in the Gulf War.
